This is my Second Attempt At The 'Less Is More - Non-Traditional Colours Challenge' . . . not a drop of colour anywhere, let alone red or green (unless you class white & gold as colours).
I must admit to becoming slightly obsessed with shaker cards at the moment, but let me tell you, I am beginning to hate micro beads with a vengeance! They start to jump out of the pot as soon as you open the lid and even when you try to tip them out as carefully and slowly as you possibly can, as soon as they hit a hard surface (even from a millimetre away) they bounce like hailstones on a tin roof . . . micro beads EVERYWHERE!! I have four other pots that I haven't opened yet, and I'm afraid to!

I have been asked a number of times now about exactly what dies did I use and how did I make it. The answer is not a simple one - it's simple enough to do, but a little complicated to explain in words - so the best thing I can do is to give you some links to some very good videos on how to make a shaker.
The dies used are a set purchased in 2014 and was still available Christmas 2015, however, there tons of similar dies out there by most of the die companies (including new ones from Spellbinders)

ReplyDeleteTo "tame" the micro beads, huff (softly) into the container just as you open it. This will help take the static electricity out of the air...it may take a few huffs to get them all tamed!!! KAY MIDDLE

DeleteTheses cards are wonderfull. I watch your links but I still dont understand how you did to keep the embellishments in the form? What do you use around the forms because its not round or squares?
ReplyDeleteIt is foam tape, you just have to go around as best you can with it, just make sure that you have no gaps, otherwise the 'shaker pieces' will fall out. Then you put another layer of acetate on top of that and it makes a (kind of) box. I hope that makes sense? Thank you for your visit today! xx
DeleteLove this card Hazel! I even bought the dies to try to create it. How exactly did you do the gold ornament? Foil cardstock? Did you cut a plain ornament in the white card front and then glue the detailed gold ornament to it? I understand how to do the shaker part. Just not sure about the actual ornaments.

Loving this gorgeous card. I have no problem with the shaker part etc but wondering if you might share what type of adhesive you used to attach the actual die cut to the shaker part. I have used vellum to create a stained glass effect but am afraid that the die cut will not stick well and come apart in the mail.

I used Rangers Multi Matte medium, it's very strong, just put something like an acrylic block on top of it for a while as it's drying as I find it does take a little while dry fully, but it certainly shouldn't come apart in the mail.

I am thinking of doing this type of card for a craft group at our church. I found the die set on Amazon...I have the micro beads (Dangerous!--ha!) and am wondering how do to the foiling part- wish we could heat emboss in gold and glue on top of the acetate window...hoping it works. Thanks! (I think this card is GORGEOUS)

There is no foiling involved. The ornaments/baubles and sentiment are all die cut out of gold foil card-stock. The die cut ornaments are then adhered to the outside of the acetate window. Hope that helps!

There doesn't seem to be an obvious way to become "reply" versus "no reply" I did check the "notify me" box, so it at least sent me an email... Can you tell me how to change that? Also- if you die cut the ornaments out of foil cardstock- what kept them from being white at the edges? Also the word "peace" is it die cut from foil cardstock?

The answer to your question about the foil card-stock question is, I don't know, I know it might sound a bit flaky, but the white just didn't really show, maybe because it was actually an off-white core rather then pure white? A gorgeous card, the simplicity of it is so exquisite and with the gold/white color just makes it a perfect card. I don't make cards using the tools you do. I make machine embroidered cards but cannot find cards with larger openings to insert the embroidery in. Some friends make some cards for me with the larger openings and I appreciate them very much.
