An Awful Welcome Home!

Hello my friends!  First I what to thank all of you who visited my blog and commented these past weeks, even though you knew I wouldn't be able to return the favour!  You are so very, very sweet!

I have no card today, as we only arrived home yesterday and we have so much to do . . . I will explain!

We arrived home after a two hour drive at 03:30 in the morning, opened the front door and encountered a stomach wrenching smell, the whole house smelled like a rubbish tip of rotting, putrefying food . . . we had had a power cut eleven days ago and our two freezers had defrosted and all the food had rotted . . . meat, vegetables, ice cream had all turned to liquid and filled the house with a wonderful smell to greet us!  So, we had to clear that all up before we could get some sleep!  We managed to crawl into bed at 05:30 as the sun was coming up - well, it was daylight, there was no sun, only rain!

We have had to get a load of food now, as we have nothing left to eat, so I will leave you gentle readers, with a few video clips and a couple of pictures that we took whilst away (they aren't wonderful, as I have had no time to edit and they were only shot on my old phone).

Here they are, such as they are!

Thank you so much for your visit today and especially if you have left a comment.  You are all appreciated more than you know!

If you have a question, please be sure I have a way to contact you so I can answer, as a lot of you are 'no-reply' bloggers, so I am unable to reply via e-mail.

  5. So sorry you had to return to that Hazel, it must have been horrendous. I love the photos and the video and I've never seen so many goats in my life. The countryside and the beach both look gorgeous. Hope you feel rested and enjoyed your break even if the homecoming could have been better. x

  15. Hello Hazel,
I am so sorry for what happened. Fortunately, besides being tired after travel and forced cleaning, there has not been a great tragedy. There are worse misfortunes. But we are always happy when the house welcomes us warm and pleasant smell and not such surprises.
I hope that now everything will be ok. But the journey had to be great :-)) and will be something to remember.
    Hugs,
    BożenA

  18. Oh Hazel, I'm only just reading this now!! I'm subscribing to you rather than relying on Blogger, so I don't miss anything in future. Just a dreadful welcome home. The stuff of nightmares in fact :( Lovely photographs of your holiday though - focus on that! Xx

  20. OMGosh Hazel, how horrible to have that happen!!! Can you put a claim in on your homeowner's insurance for the food loss?? Makes me sick just thinking about it plus the smell and clean up that you had to take care of. That sure wasn't a pleasant home coming!!! But your pictures are just beautiful, sure doesn't look like they were taken with an old phone camera at all! Hope better days ahead for you!!! Hugs, Brenda

  22. I'm so sorry this happened, Hazel! What a gut-wrenching (literally) thing to come home to! Next time give your neighbors a key so they can empty the freezer for you if you have a power failure. Well, please God, there is NO next time of this happening! Your photos are great - it looks like you got away to a little paradise in the country! I'm glad you had the photos to "take you back there" the next day to wipe out the images of the mess. Bless you! Sending lots of hugs, Darnell
