Colouring Practice With Pencils
Hi everyone, I hope you are having a great weekend and Valentine's Day! We actually have sunshine here today!
As a lot of you will know, my colouring skills can leave a lot to be desired and I have tried all methods, bar, Copics, as they are too rich for my blood! I have tried, watercolours - in various forms, from Peerless, to cheap, kids paints, markers of all types, from SU to Memento, through to the Stabilo 68 markers that everyone uses. All my attempts come out rubbish.
The only thing that I have a modicum of success with is pencils - ordinary, colouring pencils and watercolour pencils - from cheap, kids pencils through to Derwent Coloursoft, and pencils are the only colouring medium I seem able to control any sense! So, I have given up on other methods and have decided to perfect the one medium that I have had some success with and stop stressing about all the others!
So, here is today's effort.
I also tried some ombre stamping with the sentiment, but think I needed two colours further apart in hue, as it just looks like I messed up with the stamping!
Thank you for your visit today! Have a lovely evening! Hazel xx

Yep, you make pencils SING! This is beautiful!! Happy V Day
ReplyDeleteYour pencil blending is fabulous. I adore the colours and the white highlights. I think you're right, there comes a time when you need to stick with what makes you happy. I bought some Zigs in the heat of all the fuss last year and really don't get on with them at all. I do like my Copics, but they are not cheap..... Have stopped buying for the time being! Beautiful colours. Xx
ReplyDeleteso pretty Hazel - i have good luck with watercolor pencils, but never have been able to blend just pencils very well.
ReplyDeleteWell you certainly have mastered the pencils Hazel. You've done an absolutely wonderful job. I love your colours too and the white dots of the leaves look great. Can I ask what the stamp is, it's lovely. Barbxx

ReplyDeleteMy friend, you surely have a talent to colour wonderfully with the pencils!!! Your flowers are STUNNING and I can't believe the beautiful deep colours your pencils have!!! I also love to work with pencils, but mine has not got the wonderful intense colours as yours!!! The white on the flowers and the white dots on the leaves are really having everything shine!!! WOW, this is a FABULOUS card and I LOVE it, Hazel!!! So beautiful!!!
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!!!

Oh my Hazel this is so gorgeous. You have coloured it so well my friend.
ReplyDeleteI love using pencils aswell but prefer the Faber Castell Polychromos above the Derwent. Used both. Stunning card my dear.

Wow...what a gorgeous card! I love your coloring, simply fabulous.
ReplyDeleteYou have perfected your colouring with pencils Hazel. This is absolutely gorgeous! Pencils are something I struggle with. Need to keep working on it ... I could use some lessons from you! xx
ReplyDeleteYou do pencils very well Hazel!! I love, love the shading in this flower. I love, love, love the whole card! You colors are just beautiful together and your shading is amazing looking. I am practicing with pencils too, but in the adult coloring books. lol So maybe one day I will try on a card. Love how yours turned out my friend, it is simply stunning. Hugs, Brenda
ReplyDeleteNo, I never would have guessed you had any trouble with coloring ! Oh my gosh Hazel this is amazing, yep pencils are for you! Gorgeous card!
ReplyDeleteI love my pencils too!! Would love to try Copics but they are way beyond my budget and my Faber Castell Water colour pencils are fantastic. Your colouring look incredible on this card and I love your white highlight dots. I've been to afraid to try the dots but it certainly makes a huge difference!!
ReplyDeleteYour coloring is amazing. If I could color as well as you, I would also stop worrying about anything other than pencils. Love your white dots and the bright and cheery colors you chose.
ReplyDeleteI think your pencils look just wonderful here. (I can't do pencils well either, and I'm not great with w/coloring, but I keep trying off & on). I think you've done something you can be very proud of with this design, it's a lovely image, and just beautifully colored & shaded. Lots of contrast with the different colors, and I like the way you added the highlights of dots. Nice detail. Keep it up! TFS & Hugs
ReplyDeleteGreat card Hazel and you did really well with the pencils! ....sorry about that stamp name but there was none on the packet....I did look ;) Viv xx
