Colouring Practice With Pencils

Hi everyone, I hope you are having a great weekend and Valentine's Day!  We actually have sunshine here today!

As a lot of you will know, my colouring skills can leave a lot to be desired and I have tried all methods, bar, Copics, as they are too rich for my blood!  I have tried, watercolours - in various forms, from Peerless, to cheap, kids paints, markers of all types, from SU to Memento, through to the Stabilo 68 markers that everyone uses.  All my attempts come out rubbish.

The only thing that I have a modicum of success with is pencils - ordinary, colouring pencils and watercolour pencils - from cheap, kids pencils through to Derwent Coloursoft, and pencils are the only colouring medium I seem able to control any sense!  So, I have given up on other methods and have decided to perfect the one medium that I have had some success with and stop stressing about all the others!

So, here is today's effort.

I also tried some ombre stamping with the sentiment, but think I needed two colours further apart in hue, as it just looks like I messed up with the stamping!

Thank you for your visit today!  Have a lovely evening!  Hazel xx

  2. Your pencil blending is fabulous. I adore the colours and the white highlights. I think you're right, there comes a time when you need to stick with what makes you happy. I bought some Zigs in the heat of all the fuss last year and really don't get on with them at all. I do like my Copics, but they are not cheap..... Have stopped buying for the time being! Beautiful colours. Xx

  14. I love my pencils too!! Would love to try Copics but they are way beyond my budget and my Faber Castell Water colour pencils are fantastic. Your colouring look incredible on this card and I love your white highlight dots. I've been to afraid to try the dots but it certainly makes a huge difference!!

  16. I think your pencils look just wonderful here. (I can't do pencils well either, and I'm not great with w/coloring, but I keep trying off & on). I think you've done something you can be very proud of with this design, it's a lovely image, and just beautifully colored & shaded. Lots of contrast with the different colors, and I like the way you added the highlights of dots. Nice detail. Keep it up! TFS & Hugs
