CAS 4 - Day 3 - Inked Backgrounds

Today's (or yesterdays in USA) lessons were 'Inked Backgrounds' and the techniques I chose to try were, Jennifer McGuire's 'Layered Inking' and Karolyn's 'Velveteen Stamping', this is the card I am going to show you first.

First, I stamped the, Just Rite, 'Elegant Fronds' in white pigment ink on to white cardstock and let that dry.  Then, I stamped the flowers and leaves from the, Altenew, 'Lacy Scrolls' stamp set and that was stamped in Stampin' Up's, 'Melon Mambo' and 'Gumball Green' inks.

Next, I got a piece of 'Gumball Green' card and stamped Avery Elle's 'Woodgrain & More' stamp in versamark ink for a tone on tone effect.  Then I stamped the little tag with Paula Pascual, 'Every Day Messages', put twine through it and wound it round the front of the card and fastened it at the back with tape and popped the tag up on foam tape.

Finally, I mounted the whole thing on to a card base and added a few sequins and this is the card!

The second technique was, 'Layered Inking', which involved blending a couple of distress inks together on a background piece and then overstamping with Versamark, and the Versamark was supposed to react with the distress inks and lighten those areas . . . but in Hazel's world nothing goes as it does for everyone else and the Versamark just dried into the background and didn't show up at all!!

So, I did the only thing I could do so I didn't get behind again, I . . . cheated!  What I did, was, I restamped with white pigment ink . . . well, it's still technichally 'layered stamping' isn't it?  Please tell me you'd have done the same?!!

The stamps I used were, Simon Says Stamp, 'Lots Of Dots' (for the moon) and Lawn Fawn, 'Starry Backdrops' and the dies were, Clearly Besotted, 'On The Line'.

Finally I finished it with a greeting from Waltzing Mouse Stamps, 'Compliments Of The Season'

CAS 4 - Day 2 - DIY Stamp

I managed to get one more card done for Day 2 of the CAS 4 course and this time, it was DIY stamps, by Shari Caroll.

First I cut my Memory Box, 'Chloe Stem' die out of white fun foam and mounted it on to my acrylic block with temporary adhesive . . . which on fun foam, wasn't as nearly temporary as when it is on smooth cardstock!  Then I coated it with Memento, 'Rich Cocoa' and stamped it on a panel of, Stampin' Up, 'Natural' cardstock.

Next, I took the 'stamp' off the block and adhered it to my card layer and then stamped my greeting from the Simon Says Stamp, 'Friendship Sayings' and layered it on to a strip of chocolate brown cardstock and a panel of patterned paper.

Finally, I mounted the finished panel on to a natural card base and added a few homemade sequins and glitter 'gems' (glitter glue).

By now, I had nearly lost all light, so I only have the full cards, no detail shots, as the pictures were very poor.

New Card Classes

I do hope everyone had a lovely Christmas . . . everything is almost back to normal now, it comes and goes so quickly doesn't it?  

The next event , of course, is the New Year.  

As we have not had a particularly good time of it this year - one way or another - we are hoping 2015 will be the start of a better period and wish the same for each and every one of you, my lovely followers!

You will all be seeing the results of an online card class I will be taking a bit later this month which is Clean & Simple 4: Techniques Made Simple  which is run by instructors Kristina Werner, Jennifer McGuire, and Julie Ebersole

I took the  Clean & Simple 3 last year and thouroughly enjoyed it, so you will be seeing the results here as and when I have made something for the class.

I would like to wish you all a very healthy and happy New Year in 2015!
